Project Brief
The renowned five-star hotel Hyatt Regency Tokyo entrusted YMM with the soft rebranding their Chinese restaurant, Jade Garden.
Facing the challenge of modernising while staying true to its roots, the project aimed to revitalise the Jade Garden brand, ensuring it continued to stand out in the culinary landscape of Tokyo.
Solution
The transformative journey of Jade Garden’s rebranding began with the selection of a mustard yellow palette, to harmoniously contrast with the restaurant’s existing palette of blues and elevate the ambiance of this premier Chinese dining establishment.
Curated Artworks
Embracing the storied heritage of 16th-century Chinese art, we selected open-access museum pieces to be integrated into the branding, paying tribute to the cultural richness that Jade Garden embodies.
Logo Refinement
The restaurant’s logo underwent a full redesign, moving from traditional Chinese calligraphy to a modern and timeless typography to better represent the brand’s positioning.
Multilingual Supports
The careful curation of fonts, accommodating a global clientele, complements the establishment’s luxurious setting while promoting inclusivity.
Strategy
Our approach was to infuse the brand with a burst of colour and artistic flair, celebrating both the geographic and cultural essence of the restaurant. The objective was to give the brand a modern and elegant visual update that would bring it up to the high standards of their authentic Chinese cuisine.
Outcome
Jade Garden’s brand refresh pays homage to its heritage, while anchoring it in the 21st century. The introduction of this new visual identity across all collaterals has redefined Jade Garden’s presence in Tokyo’s competitive culinary scene, promising patrons a memorable journey through the rich flavours of Chinese cuisine.
